Hi! My name is Jessica and I am currently a Learning Center Director (Librarian) at a middle school in northern Illinois. While pursuing my Bachelor of Science degree in English Education, I started working at the campus library. After graduation, I instantly knew teaching wasn’t where I wanted to be in the career world. Although I missed working with the teen students, teaching just wasn’t what I wanted to do with my life. So, I started looking for a public library job. In the fall of 2008, I landed not only my first public library job, but also my first library job working with teens. After about three years working with teens in public libraries, I have recently (fall 2011) landed a librarian position in a public school which has allowed me to combine my education degree with my library science degree while continuing to work with my favorite group to serve--teens (more specifically, middle school teens).
In my free time you will typically find me with my nose in a book, more than likely a teen fiction book. I love, love, love to read and not only do I get to enjoy it personally, but it also allows me to perform my job better. It’s a win-win situation! I review the books I read not only on my blog, but also for VOYA (Voice of Youth Advocates professional library magazine). Besides reading, I like to spend time with my husband and three pets (2 dogs and 1 cat), adventure in the great outdoors, shop, listen to music…I’ll pretty much try anything once.
***A note to authors/publishers: I would love to have the chance to read and review your book. If you have a book you would like me to review, please send me an e-mail at the following address: j.skaggs85 (at) gmail (dot) com.***
